This fascinating gravel loop itinerary starts from the mountain village of Antillo, in the heart of the Peloritani Mountains, and leads cyclists to discover three small towns in the Agrò Valley: Antillo, Limina and Castelvecchio Siculo.
The route extends for approximately 57 kilometers with more than 1,200 meters of elevation gain, crossing scenic roads, gravel sections and ancient connecting paths between the villages of the Messina hinterland. It is an ideal itinerary for those who love adventure cycling and wish to explore an authentic Sicily, far from the most crowded tourist routes.
The ride begins in the center of Antillo, a small village perched on the mountains of the Agrò Valley, surrounded by forests and traditional agricultural landscapes. Leaving the village behind, the route develops among olive groves, agricultural terraces and mountain pastures, immediately offering beautiful views over the Ionian hinterland.
The trail then leads toward Limina, one of the main towns in the valley and historically an important connection point between the Peloritani Mountains and the Ionian coast. Here the landscape alternates between wooded areas and cultivated agricultural land, where ancient dry-stone walls and small vineyards typical of the local rural tradition can still be seen.
Continuing along the route, cyclists reach Castelvecchio Siculo, one of the most characteristic medieval villages of the valley. The town still preserves a strong connection with the history and traditions of the area, with ancient churches and narrow streets that tell centuries of rural life.
The itinerary continues through a natural environment rich in vegetation typical of the Peloritani Mountains: oak forests, chestnut trees and Mediterranean scrub accompany several sections of the route, making the ride particularly scenic especially during spring and autumn.
One of the most fascinating aspects of this tour is the numerous natural panoramic viewpoints encountered along the route. From several vantage points it is possible to observe the entire Agrò Valley descending toward the Ionian Sea, and on clear days it is also possible to glimpse the mountain ridges that connect this area with Mount Etna.
The final section of the route gradually leads back to Antillo, with a series of scenic ups and downs that once again allow cyclists to enjoy the mountainous landscape of the Peloritani.
This itinerary represents one of the most complete experiences for those who wish to ride through the Sicilian hinterland, combining sport, nature and the discovery of the small villages of the Agrò Valley.
